Craig Goch dam  is 36mtrs high and 156 mtrs long, and forms part of the dam complex of the Elan Valley.  It was built to supply Birmingham's need for fresh water at the turn of the last century. The water travels the entire course using only the force of gravity, reaching a speed of around 1 mile per hour.

Tywi Forest Carmarthenshire Cymru. If your very lucky you might see a Red Squirrel in this large pine plantation. Dense coniferous forests give our native Squirrel the upper hand over the North American Grey which favours broad leafed woodland.

Newdigate Nature reserve is a former Surrey brick works which has been transformed into a nature conservation area boasting a rich host of amphibians and dragonflies. In the wooded parts there are Wild Service trees growing. A good indicator of ancient wood land which has never come under the plough.

Bosham Church is the oldest Christian site in Sussex there was a congregation here 200yrs before Augustine landed in Kent. The present building is mainly of Saxon origin. King Canute lived in Bosham for a while and it is believed his daughter is buried in the church. The place is marked with a stone slab bearing the emblem of a Raven. It is also the only church depicted on the Bayeux tapestry.

Common Yew                                                                                Taxus baccata.                                                                                     This ancient Yew is forming a sacred groove at Kingley Vale West Sussex. This site has one of the finest Yew forest's in Europe with many trees over 500yrs old. New research suggests some trees could predate Christianity making them the oldest living organisms in Great Britain.

Kingley Vale Forest clings onto the shallow chalky soil of the South Downs. It forms a dark brooding presence giving us a glimpse back in time to when England was covered in trees.

Ambersham Common.                                                                      West Sussex.                                                                                      The post war pine plantation is being cut back to aid  heathland restoration. Across the country areas are being transformed back into this rare and wonderful habitat. By 2010 it is hoped a further 6000 hectares will created. Europe has lost 90% of its heath land and in some English counties the figure is even higher! This due to urbanisation, leisure activates such as golf courses, forestry plantations, scrub encroachment and farming. Heathland is actually rarer than rain forest! So it needs our protection along with all the amazing creatures that call it home.
